Some say 13 is an unlucky number, but Davidson College proved otherwise during the 13th annual #AllinforDavidson one-day giving challenge.
Nearly 2,650 donors came together to raise $1,242,634 for many of the programs and initiatives that make Davidson the special place it is today: scholarships, athletics, the arts, diversity & inclusion, student health & well-being, the Hurt Hub@Davidson, academic departments, student organizations and so much more.
Throughout the day, social media channels were flooded with video clips and posts about why people feel lucky to be a part of the Davidson College community. On campus, students, faculty and staff stopped by the Alvarez College Union for games, entertainment, coffee and a little education about why being #AllinforDavidson is about more than fun (though we love that part, too). Students also had the chance to catch a “cash cab” to class or to “pie” a professor or coach, all in the name of philanthropy.
“We feel lucky to play a small part in something so much bigger,” said National Fund for Davidson Chairs Mark Cody ’01 and Rebecca Harris Cody ’01. “#AllinforDavidson is one of our favorite traditions, and seeing so many alums rally in a single day is a powerful reminder of how deeply this place connects us, no matter where we are. We are grateful for the outpouring of support for Davidson — on this giving day and every day.”
The 2,000 donor goal was surpassed by 8 p.m., unlocking a $500,000 challenge from a group of anonymous donors. The energy only grew from there, with gifts pouring in from 49 states and eight countries. The classes of 2011 and 1991 closed out the day on top of the participation leaderboard.
The Office of Alumni & Family Engagement hosted in-person events, encouraging Wildcats to show they’re #AllinforDavidson together. During the day, alums gathered for a co-working event at One South in Charlotte. In the evening, Davidsonians met up for an evening of mini-golf and connection at Puttery in both Charlotte and Washington, D.C.
“Whether it’s mini-golf, co-working or just catching up, you can feel the connection we all share as Wildcats,” said Jared Herr ’22, young alum and communications co-chair for the Washington, D.C., chapter. “Being #AllinforDavidson isn’t just something we say; it’s something we show up for. Any day spent with fellow Davidson alums is a great day in my book, and to do it in support of today’s students and faculty makes it even better.”
Over the last 13 years, the #AllinforDavidson one-day giving challenge has raised more than $14 million for the people and programs of Davidson College. We can’t wait to see what year 14 brings next spring!
“Each year, #AllinforDavidson is a powerful reflection of what makes this community so special,” said Morgan Bell Kee ’12, director of The Fund for Davidson. “Generosity from alums, families, students, faculty, staff and friends directly fuels opportunities for our students and strengthens Davidson for the future. We don’t necessarily need a special occasion to share why we feel lucky to be part of this place, but the 13th #AllinforDavidson was a perfect excuse to share it a little louder. Thank you to everyone who made the day a success!”
