Beate Dornburg

Counseling Intern

Background

I am a graduate student in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at UNC Charlotte, currently pursuing my second master’s degree. My first was in Psychology with a specialization in Neuropsychology, earned in Germany, where I worked as a clinical neuropsychologist supporting individuals with neurological injuries as well as children and adolescents navigating a wide range of social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.

My clinical approach is best described as integrative. I consider Person-Centered therapy the foundation of my work, emphasizing empathy, authenticity, and active listening, while regularly incorporating Cognitive-Behavioral strategies. I also draw from a variety of strength-based and solution-focused techniques to support client growth and resilience. My practice is grounded in a strong commitment to multicultural counseling, honoring each client’s unique identity, lived experience, and cultural context.

As a former national-level track and field athlete in my youth, I understand both the joy and the pressure that comes with competitive sports. That is why I am truly looking forward to supporting Davidson’s student-athletes.

I believe in holistic wellness, both personally and professionally. Whether it is time outdoors, walking my dog, practicing yoga, or enjoying a meaningful conversation over coffee, I value the small moments of connection that support mental health and overall well-being.
