Background
I am a classically trained tenor who has performed nationally and internationally in operatic, vocal chamber music/art song, and symphonic repertoire. Opera companies and festivals I have performed with include Opera Carolina, Greensboro Opera, The Boston Opera Collaborative, Lowell House Opera at Harvard, The Natchez Opera Festival, Sarasota Opera, Anchorage Opera, Bronx Opera, Great Neck Opera, Mercury Opera Rochester, Centro Studi Italiani Opera Festival, The Israel Vocal Arts Institute, and The International School in Malang, Indonesia. Highlights of my operatic work include the role of Father Genville in Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking with The Boston Opera Collaborative. This was the critically acclaimed New England premiere production of the opera and was a collaboration with Jake Heggie and Sister Helen Prejean. Another highlight was singing the role of Arturo in Lucia di Lamermoor with Opera Carolina opposite Sumi Jo in the title role. My repertoire ranges from full lyric tenor standard repertoire with a strong emphasis on modern American opera. Some of my favorite roles are Lennie in Of Mice and Men, Sam in Susannah, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Stifellio in Stifellio, Florestan in Fidelio, and Lenski in Yevgeny Onegin.
Art song and vocal chamber music is a real passion of mine. I have curated and performed approximately four hundred songs in a repertoire encompassing thirteen languages. Some of my favorite repertoire is Janáček’s The Diary of One Who Vanished, Schubert’s Winterreise and Die Schöne Müllerin, Britten’s The Holy Sonnets of John Donne, and Vaughan Williams’ On Wenlock Edge.
I was a young artist with Opera Carolina, Sarasota Opera, Natchez Opera, and Anchorage Opera. I am the recipient of The Ron and Charlotte Payne Award at The Metropolitan Opera National Council North Carolina District and First Place at the MTNA competition in Greensboro, NC. I was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee. I was a staff singer with Trinity Church Boston and was in residency at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London and Lincoln Cathedral in Lincolnshire, England.
I am deeply committed to music education and music ministry. I have taught pre-K-12 chorus and music appreciation in both public and private school settings. I have been Adjunct Professor of Voice at Catawba College since 2016, and have a thriving private voice studio. I am founder and director of Exalt Home School Choir. I currently serve as Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church of Mooresville and am also a commissioned music missionary with A.C.T. (Artists in Christian Testimony, International), and formerly Greater Europe Mission. In 2025 I joined the voice faculty at Jubilate Summer Course in Suceava, Romania.
I am happily married to my high school sweetheart Amy. We have been blessed with four beautiful children; Banagher, Linden, Violet, and Amias.
