Background
I am an interdisciplinary sound scholar whose work focuses on US American media produced during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
My current research project examines the ideological notions of fitness constructed in US society at the height of the Cold War. This research has been generously supported by organizations including the American Musicological Society, Smith College, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
I have presented my research throughout the United States and internationally. My work has been published in Jazz and Culture, Musicology Now, and various other professional publications and blogs. I am also active in service to the profession. Currently, I serve as co-chair of the American Musicological Society’s Music and Dance Study Group. Previously, I served as a representative of the American Musicological Society’s Southeast Chapter and as a board member of the American Musicological Society’s Cold War and Music Study Group.
In my spare time, I enjoy birding, solving crosswords, and watching movies of all genres.
