Background

I greatly enjoy encouraging my students to discover history, and teaching them how to understand and communicate their discoveries. My teaching specialties include modern U.S. history and legal history and my research interests focus on legal history in the United States and Latin America.

I've published extensively with my students' collaboration, contributions, and even co-authorship. Undergraduate research and publication are something of a mantra here at Davidson, and I'm a great believer in it. My most recent book, Law and Society in the South: A History of North Carolina Court Cases (University Press of Kentucky) lists 72 Davidson student contributors.
