Research and Academic Initiatives
Through a robust expansion of academic resources and institutional leadership, Davidson College is deepening its commitment to uncovering and honoring the complexities of its history.
From the student-focused Davidson Fund for Racial Equity to the establishment of a state-of-the-art archaeology lab, the college is fostering interdisciplinary collaboration between faculty, students, and partners like the Catawba Nation. Led by dedicated experts across Africana Studies, History, and Anthropology, these initiatives—including the preservation of historic sites like Beaver Dam—transform the campus into a living laboratory for research, equity, and civic engagement.
Research Facilities
A new state-of-the-art archaeology lab serves as the primary research space for Professor Brittany Brown, who has also been appointed as Director of Archaeology at Beaver Dam Plantation.
Catawba Nation Collaboration
A partnership with the Catawba Nation grew a corn collaboration into a multi-year interdisciplinary project that stretches from art to history to STEM to agriculture.
Course Development
New courses in History and Anthropology are being developed to research and build awareness of lesser-known individuals who contributed to the College's history.
Davidson Fund for Racial Equity
The Davidson Fund for Racial Equity supports student research, internships, and civic engagement focused on racial equity, with faculty mentorship required for research projects.
