Frank Dominguez Named General Manager of WDAV

Davidson College is pleased to announce that Frank Dominguez will serve as general manager and content director of WDAV. Since November 2012, Dominguez has acted as interim general manager and will take on the permanent role effective immediately. "I am thrilled that Frank has accepted the position of general manager and content director at WDAV," said Cat Serrin Niekro, associate vice president for communications, technology and operations. "His experience in public radio and knowledge of classical music, combined with the fact that he's one of the most respected program directors in the business, make him the perfect leader for WDAV."

"I feel so fortunate and honored to be asked to take the helm of WDAV at this particular time in its history," said Dominguez. "With a new antenna, recent fundraising milestones and an absolutely terrific staff-both on air and off-I feel that we're poised to serve our audience more meaningfully than ever before."

Since 1994 Frank Dominguez has been a familiar voice to classical music listeners. He has played a crucial part in WDAV programming decisions as announcer coordinator, assistant program director and program director. During his tenure, the station has transitioned to a fully professional on-air staff, overhauled its program schedule and charted unprecedented growth in local programming, from the production of original series' such as "Carolina Live" to the addition of the daily, overnight "Early Shift." He also has produced a number of live concert broadcasts by the Charlotte Symphony, Opera Carolina, the Spoleto Festival USA and the Brevard Music Center, as well as the station's annual holiday broadcast of Charlotte Lessons and Carols from St. John's. In addition, Dominguez is the creator and host of "Concierto," the nation's first bilingual (English/Spanish) classical music program, now heard on stations from San Juan, Puerto Rico to San Diego.

Dominguez has served as a consultant to classical radio stations across the country through the Public Radio Program Directors association. Some of the stations that have benefited from his expertise include WITF in Harrisburg, Pa., WUSF in Tampa, Fla., KSUI in Iowa City, Iowa, and KVNO in Omaha, Neb.

Dominguez began his radio career at 90.7 WFAE, where for eight years he hosted the popular Sunday evening music program "Nightscapes." In addition, he has worked extensively in local theater as an actor and director, including productions for Actor's Theatre of Charlotte, CAST, Theatre Charlotte and Opera Carolina. He earned a bachelor's degree in theatre from Adelphi University as well as a master's degree and master of fine arts degree from the University of New Orleans.
