Civic Engagement Council
The Civic Engagement Council is an umbrella organization for more than 25 student-led service organizations.
The CEC executive board supports the work of these groups in addition to offering campus-wide events and programming during National Volunteer Week. If you or your group would like to collaborate with the council or if you would like to be put in touch with one of the student groups, please contact the CEC adviser Christina Eggenberger at cheggenberger@davidson.edu.
This page is just a sampling of the many clubs and organizations active at Davidson, sorted alphabetically. Members of the Davidson community may view all organizations on WildcatSync. Students may also work with the Student Activities Office to launch new clubs and organizations.
Adopt-A-Grandfriend
Adopt-A-Grandfriend is an organization that focuses on pairing Davidson College students with older individuals in the local area to cultivate a tight-knit community and facilitate good times, and the creation of a support system for Davidson College Students.
Alternative Breaks is an organization that is focused on providing opportunities for immersive service. Participants will live and serve in communities over school breaks with the goal of learning more about that community and their issues.
Buddy Club
Buddy Club meets weekly with young adults who have developmental disabilities. We spend time with them, get to know them, play games, make crafts, and just have a good time. Throughout the year, we have larger banquet events and are hoping to expand outreach to more schools and maybe hold some educational events for disability awareness.
'Cats for a Cause partners with the Levine Children’s Hospital and Children Miracle Network to raise money and awareness for children fighting illnesses. The money we raise goes towards helping pay for treatment, morale boosting activities for the kids, and hospital items such as NICU diapers. Throughout the year, we have fundraising events like puppy day and profit shares. In addition, we volunteer at the hospital and host events with our miracle kids.
Davidson College Doctors Without Borders Chapter
Davidson College Doctors Without Borders Chapter is a student-led humanitarian organization that aims to spread awareness about various international global health issues, support physicians overseas, and educate the public about ongoing issues. Our goal is to provide opportunities for students to serve, learn, and fundraise for disproportionately affected communities beyond Davidson.
Davidson Refugee Support is a relational, long term, and self sustaining group devoted to supporting refugees in North Carolina. Our primary nonprofit partner is Refugee Support Services in Charlotte and we work with them in a variety of ways from one-time events to fundraising.
Named after the humanitarian W.E.B. DuBois, DuBoisian is a mentorship program for students at West Charlotte High School. Davidson students visit the school once a week to discuss post-high school readiness, mental health, and other related fields with the students. Throughout the year, Davidson students also plan two field trips for the students, including college visits. At the end of the school year Davidson students fundraise for the students’ post-high school plans.
Heart Beats
Our mission is to make music accessible to all by performing for communities with limited resources and mobility. We believe music is a universal language that builds connections and promotes well-being. We perform monthly in communities across the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area, centering performances around entertainment and education.
The Legacy Project
The Legacy Project at Davidson provides students with the opportunity to connect with local seniors, exchanging stories and wisdom, which are later compiled into online collections and published books featuring the seniors’ advice and stories.
Make-A-Wish Davidson College
Our goal is to rally together to plan and coordinate fundraising campaigns to help Make-A-Wish® grant more wishes to kids with critical illnesses. We will provide students a direct opportunity to be involved with granting wishes and volunteering at local Make-A-Wish events.
The mission of Project Life Movement is to ensure that every person fighting blood cancer finds their miracle match. When someone is fighting a blood cancer, they will often need a stem cell or bone marrow transplant, but it is difficult to find a donor. Our organization tries to increase the chances of a person suffering from blood cancer finding a life saving match by adding volunteers to the national bone marrow registry. We both host our own events and partner with other organizations to increase the number of potential donors available for a life saving transplant.
The Red Cross Club
The Red Cross Club is a student-led organization committed to promoting humanitarian values and community service on and off campus. In partnership with the American Red Cross, our club organizes campus blood drives, CPR and first aid training sessions, and monthly meetings focused on service, preparedness, and leadership development. Members have opportunities to take on leadership roles, coordinate volunteer events, and connect with local Red Cross chapters to make a meaningful impact. Whether volunteering locally or raising awareness on campus, the Red Cross Club provides students with opportunities to make a tangible impact through compassion, collaboration, and community engagement.
RIRA (Room in the Inn + Roof Above)
RIRA (Room in the Inn + Roof Above) aims to connect Davidson students to the homeless population of Charlotte by organizing weekly service opportunities and educational events during the fall semester. From December to March, RIRA partners with Roof Above to offer a housing option on Friday evenings. This emergency housing option plays an integral role in providing a warm place to sleep for individuals who may not have that security otherwise. During the winter months especially, Charlotte overnight shelters are beyond their capacity, so Roof Above acts in conjunction with RIRA as a flexible extension of these sites to provide support.
The goal of STEM Enrichment is to perform engaging, fun science activities and experiments with Ada Jenkins students in hopes of instilling in them an appreciation for STEM. We hope this early exposure to interesting, relevant scientific concepts will foster students’ identities as scientists and depict the importance of science in everyday life.
Share a Square aims to craft for a cause by teaching members to crochet and knit squares to make blankets for underprivileged communities around the world. We also sell products to fundraise for local causes throughout the year.
