Library & Information Science Field Experiences
Davidson College Library welcomes the opportunity to mentor current library & information science (LIS) students seeking field experience for academic credit.
Depending on the current capacity of supervisory staff, we may be able to provide field experience opportunities in the following focus areas:
- Digital Scholarship: digital publishing, user interface design, digital collections, and digital humanities technologies
- Information Literacy: information literacy instruction, libguide creation and maintenance
- Archives & Special Collections: oral histories, archival processing, archival literacy instruction, rare material cataloging, book history instruction
- Outreach: programming and communications, including social media and event planning
We are committed to providing LIS interns with an enriching field experience. We will work with you to define a project scope that fills a need for the Davidson College Library while also allowing you to explore and pursue your own professional goals. Field experiences include defined project work, shadowing opportunities, mentorship, and professional development discussions, and we are open to hybrid work models. Please note that unless otherwise stated, these opportunities are not funded.
If you are an LIS student interested in fulfilling a practical degree requirement at Davidson College Library, please complete this form and we will get back to you!
