Library Benefits for Davidson College Staff
Welcome to the library!
Whether you’re new to the college or a longtime member of the community, we’re here to support your work, learning, and creative pursuits.
We're building for the future: the George Lawrence Abernethy Library, opening in 2027, will be a state-of-the-art hub for research, collaboration, and community. We can’t wait for you to experience it!
Borrow Books, Media, and Equipment
Davidson College Staff have full access to our print and electronic resources (e-books, articles, media) and databases for research and education. Get started by searching our online catalog. For support, please email library@davidson.edu or stop by the information desk in the Lilly Family Gallery.
Use Davidson’s Single Sign On (SSO) to access most resources, including The New York Times, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Wall Street Journal (full text), and more. We also have streaming media resources for personal (non-performance) use, including foreign films, documentaries, and much more! See our video guide to get started.
The library’s collection of circulating equipment for media creation isn’t just for students; faculty and staff can also borrow cameras, tripods, mics, and more. Request equipment just like you would a book and it’ll be delivered to the library for pickup. The loan period is three days by default, but in special circumstances we’re happy to extend the length of the loan. We’ll bring the lights and the cameras; you bring the action.
Expand Your Library via Interlibrary Loan
Staff may request books, articles, book chapters, and other resources from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). It is simple and free to use! Just click “Interlibrary Loan Request” from any item in our catalog that says “available by request.”
First-time users will create a profile in ILLiad using their Davidson sign-on, then can submit the borrowing request. Physical materials are delivered to our main library desk for pickup, while electronic items will be delivered to your email.
Explore Campus and Local History
Curious about campus and local history? Start with Digital Davidson and DigitalNC, sites which contain digitized copies of yearbooks, college catalogs, oral histories, and more. If what you’re looking for hasn’t been digitized, you can search for archival collections in ArchivesSpace and send an email to archives@davidson.edu to set up an appointment with an archivist to view the materials and get research assistance. If you’re interested in researching your own family history, be sure to check out the library’s subscription to Ancestry.
We also want to share the rare and unique books and maps that are in the Davidson College Archives & Special Collections with college staff. Search for these items in our online catalog and set up an appointment by emailing archives@davidson.edu.
Get Help with Library and Archival Research
Research librarians and archivists are available to meet with you to discuss questions you have about research, publishing, college history, and more. Schedule an appointment with a research librarian; email Archives & Special Collections at archives@davidson.edu for questions about researching college history and accessing special collections.
