In addition, be aware that your borrowing privileges are for your own personal use only; do not lend your CatCard or share your login information with anyone else.

Borrowing Privileges

The following people may borrow materials from the Davidson College Library:

  • Currently-enrolled Davidson College students
  • Currently-employed Davidson College faculty and staff
  • Davidson College alumni living in the Davidson area
  • Retired faculty and staff living in the Davidson area
  • Spouses or partners of current Davidson College faculty and staff (spouses and partners must have their own CatCards)
  • Children of current Davidson College faculty and staff (children must have their own CatCards)
  • Faculty and students from Duke University, Furman University, and Johnson C. Smith University, the three other colleges and universities supported by the Duke Endowment (must make arrangements with library staff at their institutions before coming to Davidson)
  • Charlotte Teachers Institute Fellows

Others who wish to use library materials should consult our guest user policy or submit an interlibrary loan request through their local library.

Items on reserve for a class:

Renewals

Renewals of books, reserve materials, videos, and government documents are unlimited, provided no one has placed a "hold" on the item.

Materials may be renewed from your library account in Davidson's library catalog. (For help using Your Library Account, please see our guide.) You may also bring materials to the library Information Desk for renewal.

Note that items borrowed through interlibrary loan may not be renewable. Please refer to the wrap-around on interlibrary loan books for this information. You can request renewals through ILLiad.

Materials for Library Use Only

The following items are in-library-use-only and cannot be checked out:

  • Reference books and atlases
  • Periodicals, including bound and loose issues of journals, magazines, and newspapers
  • Materials in the College Archives and Rare Book Room
  • Davidsoniana Room materials

Fines

Overdue Fines

The library is no longer affixing or collecting fines for materials considered overdue.

Lost Materials

If materials are lost, the borrower is responsible for paying the replacement cost of the item and a processing fee.

Any outstanding replacement costs/processing fees will be waived if the item is returned. If the item is returned after the library has replaced the lost item, the cost will not be refunded.
