The Biology Department offers a variety of activities and events that expose students to a broad range of scientific knowledge, allowing them to interact with professors and fellow students.

All biology students and faculty members are invited to BioLunch, an informal event held nearly every week at 12:00 p.m. at Vail Commons.

Biology Newsletter

The biology newsletter is a weekly electronic newsletter distributed to biology majors and students currently or recently enrolled in a biology course. It provides information on events, seminars, scholarships, research opportunities, and accomplishments of Davidson biologists. To suggest announcements or subscribe to this newsletter please contact the department assistant.

Biology Seminars

The Biology Department Seminar Series invites guest speakers from research institutions around the country to share their research results. Davidson thesis students also present their work. Seminars are typically held during the common hour or in the late afternoon. Contact Prof. Debbie Thurtle-Schmidt, Seminar Series coordinator, with speaker suggestions and questions.

Since 2002, the Biology Department has been celebrating Darwin Day, an international event held on or around Darwin's birthday, February 12. The celebration at Davidson includes dinner, birthday cake, scientific door prizes, and a special appearance by Charles Darwin.
