There are many opportunities for students to participate in groups and activities that center around and support an interest in chemistry.
Gamma Sigma Epsilon is a national chemistry honor society founded in 1919 here at Davidson College. The organization began as a fraternity to promote academic excellence and undergraduate research in chemistry, and then became a co-educational honor society in 1931. Following years of inactivity, Davidson's chapter was reopened in 2013 and today is among more than 70 active chapters throughout the United States. GSE is governed by an elected National Executive Council and holds biennial conventions for the purpose of governance, fellowship, and scientific exchange.
SA-ACS welcomes all Davidson chemistry students who wish to join our affiliate chapter of the American Chemical Society. We sponsor a major public lecture, programs for local elementary and middle school students, chemistry magic shows during Family and Reunion Weekends. We also organize social events such as the annual picnic and the Periodic Table, a weekly lunch gathering for chemistry students and faculty in Vail Commons.
EcoTeam is an outreach program of the Environmental Leadership Center of Warren Wilson College, located in Asheville, North Carolina. Designed to teach environmental and ecological concepts to elementary school children, it simultaneously provides undergraduate students with experience coordinating, delivering, and evaluating an environmental education program.
EcoTeam is a student-led program that works with third-grade classes at local public and independent schools. Our EcoTeam curriculum consists of eight hands-on lessons covering topics such as river basins, predator/prey relationships, plant/animal interactions, pollination, and environmental citizens.
