Nearly 200 students of various majors and career interests participate each semester in our performing ensembles.
From our larger ensembles such as the Symphony Orchestra, Chorale, and Jazz Ensemble, to our smaller groups such as Appalachian Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Collegium, Jazz Combo, and Opera Workshop, students have the opportunity to collaborate and perform with their peers in an engaging, thriving musical community.
These ensembles perform in over 20 concerts throughout each season and engage with hundreds of audience members from the Davidson community and beyond.
Non-music majors are given the same opportunities to participate in ensembles as music majors. Many ensembles are non-auditioned, and even the auditioned larger ensembles welcome students of various backgrounds and abilities. Rehearsals typically take place at the end of the class day, in the evening, or during common hour.
Each ensemble strives to instill in its musicians a curious, diverse, and dedicated study and practice of music, so that they may pursue all future endeavors, both musical and non-musical, with an enhanced sense of creativity and compassion.
