Want to hone your math skills and help others? If you are interested and did well in Calculus II or beyond, consider working as a homework grader or Math & Science Center tutor.
Homework Graders
The Mathematics and Computer Science Department has a steady need for homework graders to assist in introductory courses. Contact the department chair (mathcs@davidson.edu) for more information.
Peer Student Tutors & Embedded Tutors (For Davidson Students)
The Math, Science & Economics Center (MSC) employs tutors to specifically help with mathematics and computer science. Embedded tutors provide support for individual courses. Contact the MSC Director, Prof. Andrea Duhon (anduhon@davidson.edu), for further information.
Private Tutors for Community Members
Yes, we do have mathematics and computer science students who can be hired for tutoring. Please email your inquiry to mathcs@davidson.edu and we will have a tutor reach out to you directly. Individual tutor rates may vary; an average rate of $30-$45/hour is usually appropriate for tutoring high school students. Our more experienced tutors' and faculty's hourly rates will be higher between $50-$75/hour. Acceptable payment is cash or payment app after each session – no checks or credit cards.
To inquire, please send a brief description of what you are looking for and include the following details:
- Start/End Dates
- Time Needed Per Week (weekly, 2x a week, 1 hour or 2 hours)
- Preferred Days
- Subject (Algebra, Calculus I, etc.)
- What school is your student attending
- Your contact information
Tutoring locations are up to the individual tutors. We HIGHLY recommend that our tutors use the on-campus common spaces such as Alvarez College Union, Hurt Hub, or nearby public spaces such as the Town of Davidson Public Library or Summit Coffee to meet with community members.
