The Anthropology Department sponsors the Davidson in Ghana Summer Program, which provides students with the opportunity to learn about the social, historical, and political aspects of West African societies.
Archaeological fieldwork is ongoing in Yucatan, Mexico, as are studies of contemporary Chinese society. In addition, students may participate in Davidson-sponsored study abroad programs in India, South America, Cyprus, and Europe.
Summer in Ghana
The Summer in Ghana Program is located in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region and one of the largest metropolitan cities in Ghana. As one of Africa's most beautiful and progressive countries, Ghana is a democracy with a multiparty political system.
This program includes two course credits on Ghanaian society and culture and performing arts, a service project or an internship, and excursions into other regions of Ghana. Ghanaian professors at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and artists from the Centre for National Culture teach all classes.
To ensure that participants are immersed in modern and traditional Ghanaian life, students will be living in a comfortable and conveniently located guesthouse.
