Premedicine and Allied Health Professions Awards

Premedicine and Allied Health Professions presents several awards each year to its most outstanding Davidson College students.

Sandy Black Memorial Award

This award is presented to a junior student whose superior academic record and demonstrated traits of character, personality, and leadership give promise of an outstanding contribution to the field of medicine. This award was established by Mrs. Sam Orr Black in memory of her first grandson Sam Orr Black, III. Presented by the Premedicine and Allied Health Professions Program and the Premedical/Prehealth Advisory Committee.

Daniel Blain Woods Memorial Award

This "heart" award is presented to a junior student for exhibiting the qualities needed by a good doctor: wisdom, compassion, the desire to serve, the ability to analyze problems, integrity, and academic excellence. This award was established by Dr. James E. Woods, Jr., Class of 1918 and his wife, Elizabeth, in memory of their son, Class of 1958. Presented by the Premedicine and Allied Health Professions Program and the Premedical/Prehealth Advisory Committee.
