After Hours Vocal Jazz

After Hours Vocal Jazz is a select student-led 12-member ensemble drawn from the Davidson College Chorale specializing in music for jazz vocal ensemble.

In collaboration with the director of choral activities, students who participate in After Hours are provided opportunities in service through semester concerts and leadership through rehearsal direction, sectional instruction, ensemble administration, event planning, rehearsal accompanying, rehearsal conducting, and choral composition.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are determined the second or third week of classes once the group has been auditioned and finalized, and after students are more certain of their other schedule commitments.

Auditions

Auditions are a part of the regular Davidson College Choirs auditions held during the first week of classes. Student-led call backs occur the second week of classes and the roster is typically finalized the second week of classes. Learn more about audition sign up and the audition process.

Performances

After Hours has a vibrant presence on the Davidson campus, and they have enjoyed participating in a masterclass with jazz sensation Aubrey Logan, joining regularly with the Davidson College Jazz Ensemble, and performing at the popular “Live Thursday” in the student union.
