A Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kit (SAECK) can be completed at an Emergency Room during a Sexual Assault Forensic Exam (SAFE) within 120 hours of an assault.
This type if exam is completed by a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) and includes collection of evidence in addition to medical care.
Students can still seek medical care at an emergency room for a sexual assault without having a SAECK completed. Medical care provided after a sexual assault could include services like:
- Testing and prophylactic medication for the prevention of STIs (sexually transmitted diseases)
- Pregnancy testing and prevention
- HIV testing and prevention
- Physical Examination
The Center for Student Health and Wellbeing can also provide these services for students during regular business hours.
If you are worried about insurance coverage, consider GoodRx for coupons. If you are a dependent on an insurance plan, the primary holder may receive an insurance claim with the hospital visit listed if you provide your insurance information.
