The Step-by-Step Process
Your first step is the Triage Consultation - you can walk in or schedule through the health portal.
- What it is: A quick conversation with a counselor to assess what you need right now.
- The outcome: We will match you with the right resource and create a personalized care plan—this may include individual counseling, a peer support group, workshops, or a referral to another resources on campus, or an off-campus specialist.
- How long does it take: 20-40 minutes
If individual counseling is part of your personalized care plan, you'll be paired with a clinician for an intake session.
- What to Expect: This is a collaborative conversation. You don't need to have a scripted explanation of your problems—just share what you are comfortable sharing at your own pace.
- The Goal: To understand your current struggles and set realistic goals that support both your mental health and your academic success.
We will work with you on your counseling goals. Appointments are usually scheduled bi-weekly (every other week) which allows you time to work on what is discussed in session.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. Counseling services are already covered. There is no additional copay or out-of-pocket cost for your sessions here.
Strictly no. Your privacy is protected by law (FERPA). We cannot, and will not, tell your parents, your roommates, or your professors that you are coming here, nor what you say in your sessions, without your explicit written permission. The only exception is if there is an immediate safety emergency.
Never. Your mental health records are kept entirely separate from your academic transcripts. Coming to counseling will never impact your GPA, your enrollment status, or your graduation.
Standard sessions are 45 to 50 minutes. We know your schedule is packed with classes and labs, so we do our best to use your time wisely.
You don't need to wait for an appointment. We have a counselor available for walk-ins Monday–Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
