Interested in exploring the outdoors for the first time? Are you an outdoor enthusiast? Davidson Outdoors offers a wide variety of outdoor activities, events and courses throughout the year to Davidson students, faculty and staff.

Weekend trips are student run and include everything from relaxing day hikes to car camping to multiday paddling or backpacking adventures! Break trips vary from year to year, but students have been canoeing in the Everglades and on the Rio Grande, sailing off the Gulf Coast of Florida, sea kayaking off the Georgia coast, whitewater rafting in West Virginia, and more.

Davidson Outdoors also offers weekly kayak rolling lessons, daily indoor bouldering, and group initiatives programming on and off of the challenge course. Student trip leaders are trained and supervised by Davidson Outdoors staff through a variety of workshops and semester to yearlong courses in various outdoor activities and leadership skills.

Contact Austin Langley at aulangley@davidson.edu at 704-894-2623 or visit the Davidson Outdoors office in the basement of Alvarez College Union to participate in any Davidson Outdoors event or trip.

Challenge Course

Nestled in the woods beyond the college's cross-country trails, our challenge course is designed for groups who want to get to know one another better, increase trust, improve group problem solving, foster better communication skills and expand creative thinking.

Indoor Bouldering Wall

Located in the basement of the Alvarez College Union, students can learn and practice what it takes to climb with confidence. Davidson Outdoors staff will show you the footwork it takes to aim high. Davidson students can purchase discounted passes and monthly memberships to Cliffhangers, a local commercial climbing gym.
