Davidson College students can choose from many performance groups showcasing dance, comedy, and musical performance in a variety of genres.
African Drumming Ensemble
The African Drumming Ensemble involves learning techniques for the Djembe and Dundun drums of Guinea, Mali, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, and the Senegambia region of West Africa.
Androgyny is Davidson's first co-ed a cappella group, founded in 1998. We encourage polished singing and embracing our inner weirdness to make performances fun for everyone.
The Appalachian Ensemble involves learning the repertoire and techniques of the traditional music of the Appalachian region. Old Time and bluegrass styles will be studied, with emphasis on fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin and bass.
Break Line Urban
BLU is an audition-based urban dance crew that aims to break the lines between different styles of dancing and bring them into student choreography.
Choral Arts Society
This large mixed chorus provides the opportunity for collaboration between students (Davidson Singers), faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the surrounding community to sing a cappella choral literature and the finest choral/orchestral repertoire with instrumentalists from the Charlotte Symphony and professional soloists from Davidson and around the world.
The purpose and aim of Dance Ensemble is to provide opportunities for students to express themselves through dance and to enhance their artistic and technical knowledge of dance.
Bhangra is a high-energy folk dance originating from the State of Punjab in North India. Davidson Bhangra connects the Davidson community to the fun, colorful traditions of South Asia through one of the most popular forms of art, Bhangra dancing!
Davidson College Chorale
Chorale is the premier choral ensemble at Davidson. The Chorale is a highly select, auditioned choir of 24 singers comprised of students from various academic disciplines. The Chorale performs the standard choral repertoire as well as newly composed and commissioned choral literature. The Chorale tours annually, representing the college on campus, regionally, and nationally.
Davidson Collegium Musicum
A select student-led ensemble between eight to 16 members drawn from the chorale in the Music department. Collegium specializes in, but is not limited to, music of the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. In collaboration with the director of choral activities, students who participate in Collegium Musicum are provided opportunities in service through semester concerts–including a holiday concert and Spring Madrigal Dinner–and leadership through rehearsal direction, sectional instruction, ensemble administration, event planning, rehearsal accompanying, rehearsal conducting, and choral composition.
Davidson Dance Team
The Davidson Dance Team is a group of women with a jazz/hip-hop style that performs to popular music. Tryouts are held at the beginning of the year for 10 positions. The team performs at football and men's and women's basketball games, as well as in each semester's Dance Ensemble.
Davidson Pep Band
By playing at the men's and women's home basketball games, the Pep Band encourages school spirit while improving members' musical abilities.
The Davidson Singers is an auditioned mixed vocal ensemble for experienced or novice choristers interested in learning more about the art of choral singing. They join with the Choral Arts Society to perform two concerts every semester.
Davidson College Symphony Orchestra (DCSO)
DCSO provides the community with quality orchestral music.
The Davidson Delilahs are our only female a cappella group. With 11 women who sing and arrange a cappella music of all genres, the Delilahs have released six CDs. The group performs on-campus and in community events. They hold auditions for new members in the fall.
Dionysia Theater Group
We are a student-run theater club that welcomes anyone and everyone to participate in our shows! Whether you want to act, direct, or even write your own play, there's always a place for you in Dionysia.
Freeword Poetry Group
The purpose of Freeword Poetry Group is to provide a venue for spoken word poetry. Each semester, Freeword presents a show and donates the proceeds to charity.
The Davidson College Jazz Ensemble is an auditioned "big band" of approximately 18 musicians. The group rehearses and performs throughout the year with several events highlighting the schedule.
The Gamut Dance Company
The Gamut Dance Company is Davidson's audition-based dance company with a mission to provide technically trained dancers the opportunity to continue performing at a high level. Gamut focuses on the artistry and integrity of choreography and performance while promoting awareness of dance as a performing art. Founded in 2005, Gamut is made up of 10 dancers. The company produces one annual performance during the spring semester and dances in various others throughout the year. A student-run group, Gamut also works with two professional mentors and a faculty adviser. Membership in the company requires attendance at a minimum of two Dance Ensemble-sponsored classes and all rehearsals.

Oops is an improvisational comedy troupe that entertains through laughter.
Shades of Brown Step Team
Shades of Brown is a step troupe composed of members from diverse dancing backgrounds. Increasing cultural diversity within our community through exhibitions of historic step performances and representing Davidson College in competitions and other engagements on local and national levels, the group desires to entertain as well as to educate.
Swing and Salsa Club
The Swing and Salsa Club teaches the basics of swing and salsa dancing, creating an opportunity for students to enjoy dancing and cooperative learning. The group also strives to build student confidence in social situations and dancing environments.
