  • Freshman Cake Race, A Davidson Tradition

Established in 1930, the Cake Race is a voluntary 1.3-mile dash around campus for first-year students. The Davidson community donates cakes to distribute to top finishers, who select a cake prize based on the order of finish. The Cake Race is one of many activities during Wildcat Welcome Week.

Student Activities Programs & Resources

The Student Activities Office supports, sponsors, and organizes several events throughout the year for the students to participate in and enjoy.

Activities Fair

The Student Activities Office hosts an Activities Fair at the beginning of each semester where registered student organizations set up tables and introduce themselves to prospective members. It is a great way to learn more about the 200+ student organizations in one setting.

Organizational Advising

The staff members in the office are available to assist organizations and individuals with event planning and promotion, group management, member recruitment and engagement, and administrative tasks using WildcatSync, Davidson's student engagement platform.

Wildcat Welcome Week

Wildcat Welcome Week welcomes all students back to campus during the first week of classes each fall with a variety of activities and information sessions from major student organizations and departments. The goal of Wildcat Welcome Week is to provide new students with additional programming and informational opportunities beyond their formal new student orientation experience as they make Davidson their home and begin classes. The week also provides a unified effort to welcome back returning students after their summer away. An initiative of the College Union, the Wildcat Welcome Week is a mix of Davidson traditions, such as the Freshman Cake Race and Live Thursday, with new activities to engage all students.

Workshops & Trainings

The office hosts workshops and trainings on various topics including event planning, budgeting, and using WildcatSync. In addition, the Student Activities Office plans roundtable conversations with large-scale programming organizations as well as trainings for leaders who started new organizations.
