Dates to Remember for Housing
Make note of these important dates and deadlines for housing at Davidson, including move-in, move-out and break housing.
As with all things we are prepared to adjust if circumstances change. Please check back to see if there are any updates to this information. Email the Residence Life Office at RLO@davidson.edu with additional questions.
| Date | Event | Details |
|---|---|---|
| August 20 | New Student Move-In | First-years and incoming transfers, that have been cleared to arrive, will move in on Wednesday, August 20. All details about move-in procedures for first-years and transfers are sent over the summer via email to campus residents. Please reference that email for information about the move-in process, access to residential spaces and move-in expectations. |
| August 23-24 | Returning Student Move-In |
Returning students may pick up keys between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Move-in for returning students, that have been cleared to arrive, will be on Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24. Returning students may choose which of these two days they wish to return and do not have to confirm the selected date of arrival with RLO in advance. All details about move-in procedures for returning students are sent via email to campus residents over the summer. Please reference that email for information about the move-in process, access to residential spaces and move-in expectations. Returners may not move in prior to the assigned move-in dates. If flying back to campus, do not choose a flight arriving earlier than your arrival date as the halls will not be open and an early arrival move-in will not be offered. Returners arriving before their assigned date will need to make a reservation at a hotel or make arrangements to stay with a friend off-campus until the buildings open. |

| November 21-30 | Thanksgiving Break | All residence halls & apartments remain open. |
| December 17 | Winter Break Move-Out | All residence halls & apartments close at noon. |

| March 9-13 | Spring Break | All residence halls remain open. |
| May 14 | Move-Out for Non-Graduating Students | Non-graduating seniors must move out by noon. Other non-graduating students must move out within 24 hours of their last exam. A late departure fee of up to $250 will be charged to anyone failing to move out on time unless approved by RLO for late departure. |
| May 18 | Move-Out for Graduating Seniors | All residence halls & apartments close at noon. A late departure fee of up to $250 will be charged to anyone failing to move out on time unless approved by RLO for late departure. |
Move-Out Reminders
Residents must clean their rooms/suites/apartments before leaving. Please check your room thoroughly for any items before checkout to ensure you have all your personal belongings. The cleanliness of the rooms is the resident’s responsibility regardless of the presence or availability of shared resources (e.g. hall vacuums, or brooms). Before departure, make sure to check the laundry room, kitchens, and bathrooms for any personal items.
After residents move out, RLO in consultation with Physical Plant staff will assess damages that occurred in the residential spaces during the current academic year to determine which damages (if any) warrant charges. Outside of normal wear and tear, any damage charges go to those responsible residents, often the residents of the room or the identified responsible person. The reason for the assessment is to address any concerns in the effort to maintain the residence halls and apartments in good condition. Residents will be charged for missing college-provided furniture that was not reported in August on the RLO Room Condition Report.
Select items can be donated to the International Student Engagement Office and Lula Bell's Resource Center. More information will be provided on donation locations and times.
For students that have donations outside of the approved donation items list, we encourage donations to local organizations such as Habitat for Humanity (furniture), Lydia’s Loft (clothing), and Goodwill (assorted items).
If you are participating in graduation (non-graduates), please email your request for late departure to rlo@davidson.edu.
All submissions will be reviewed by the Residence Life Office. Once reviewed, you will receive a response from RLO with details regarding your submission. Graduating seniors do not need to fill out the form.
It is important to know that all the check-out deadlines are firm; the College has construction projects, building cleaning, and summer conference schedules built around them. We strongly encourage all residents to plan and pack-up belongings early to make move-out deadlines.
