Nikhil Basu

Nikhil Basu

am a first-year student at Davidson from Aurora, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. I don’t have an intended major yet, but I know that I want to study economic inequality in my career. I’m also very interested in astrophysics—not as a possible career, just as an interesting and beautiful subject. Outside of class, I play the piano (for fun) and the viola (in the Davidson College Symphony Orchestra). This year, I will also participate in club soccer, have a show on WALT Radio, and volunteer at a local high school with the DuBoisian World Scholars. When it comes to food around Davidson, it’s hard to beat a sandwich from Pickled Peach. The desserts at Commons are surprisingly good too!

I am a senior economics major and applied mathematics minor at Davidson. I am from a town outside of Philadelphia, called Blue Bell. On campus, I help lead a group called ShEcon, where we aim to foster an interest in economics among women on campus at Davidson. Outside of the classroom, I am a captain of the Women’s Lacrosse Team and a member of Connor Eating House. I have also spent some time volunteering at the Community School of Davidson teaching lacrosse. My all-time favorite spot for dinner in Davidson is at Carrburritos, and my favorite spot to hang out on campus is definitely the back patio of Summit Outpost.

On campus, I am a member of the Davidson College Chorale, a member of Rusk Eating House, a campus tour guide, and I love to host prospective students. This is my second year working with the Fund for Davidson, and I love it. As a student who benefits from the Davidson Trust, I feel lucky to be able to help other students have the same opportunities at Davidson. My favorite place to eat in Davidson is the Pickled Peach—I highly recommend it!

I am a freshman from Rockville, Maryland, and I intend to major in neuroscience on the pre-medicine track. I run on the Varsity Women’s Track and Field Team, specializing in the 100- and 200-meter dash. I am a member of STRIDE, which is a peer mentoring program designed to support first-year students of color. I am also in the Minority Association of Pre-Medicine Students. I enjoy getting coffee from Summit and the pretzel ham sandwich at Wildcat Den in Baker is the best! I’m also obsessed with sandwiches, so I love to eat at the Soda Shop on Main Street.

My favorite place to eat on Main Street is the Famous Toastery because I love breakfast food. I am a senior political science and sociology double major. I grew up in Mumbai, India but I was born in Potomac, Maryland and spent my summers there. In addition to working for The Fund for Davidson, I am a French Assistant Teacher, co-president of the South Asian Student Association (SASA), a member of Rusk Eating House and a part of student government. I love being super involved at Davidson and am so grateful for every engagement opportunity I’ve gotten here. I am an international student from Hong Kong/Shenzhen, China. I spent most of my life living and travelling between the two cities, and I’m now here at Davidson! I am a sophomore biology major, and I am also a member of the Nuances, a co-ed a cappella group on campus, and part of the Rusk Eating House on campus. I am so far loving my experience at Davidson, as I get to explore different topics in varying subjects and become friends with people from places in the world I have not yet travelled to. My favorite bite to eat in the Davidson area is Whit’s—the Davidson Delight is always my go-to order!
