Applicants must complete secondary school graduation requirements before enrolling at Davidson.
Excluding consideration for exceptional circumstances, at least 16 high school units are required, although the average student accepted at Davidson has taken 20 units. These units should include:
- Four units of English
- Three units of mathematics
- Two units of the same second language (including American Sign Language)
- Two units of science
- Two units of history/social studies
Recommended Academic Plan
To be most competitive in our applicant pool, it is strongly recommended that high school students continue for the third and fourth years in science and in the same foreign language, continue mathematics through calculus, and take additional courses in history.
Candidates should take at least five academic subjects each year in secondary school, unless the school curriculum is structured around four. It is important that a challenging academic program be taken each year, but especially in the junior and senior years.
In extenuating circumstances precluding fulfillment of this language requirement, the application will be reviewed by the Faculty Admission Committee on a case-by-case basis.
Davidson does not require that applicants submit SAT or ACT scores for the purpose of admission. Read our testing policy for more information.
The Admission Office does not offer interviews as a part of the application process, and they are not required.
Non-native English Speakers
All international applicants for whom English is not their first language are required to demonstrate they possess the level of communication skills necessary to thrive in Davidson’s dynamic and immersive educational environment. To satisfy this requirement, we accept results from TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo’s English Test (DET).
