Five-Day Odyssey Trips: $225
Backcountry Extended Edition: $350
Session I or II: $200
Session III: $150
Financial aid for the Odyssey pre-orientation program is robust. Any incoming student receiving financial aid to attend Davidson can receive aid for the Odyssey. In fact, you can receive the same percentage of aid toward an Odyssey session as your financial aid package provides to attend Davidson. However, every participant will pay a minimum of $25. The third example below outlines how this is calculated.
We even provide a travel allowance for Sessions I and II, which we calculate based on a flight cost survey we prepare in early March and your percent of financial aid. If you live within 250 miles of Davidson, we will base your travel cost on your roundtrip mileage.
If in spite of this structure, you still need assistance to participate, please contact us at 704-894-2623 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. We would like to reduce any financial barriers to participation.
We have prepared several examples to help illustrate how the cost of an Odyssey session is estimated. Your actual cost will be determined by Student Life staff based on our fees and the travel survey done in early March. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us by email at email@example.com or by phone at 704-894-2522.
Suzie Q, from San Fun Town, Calif.:
Her cost is figured by the following formula: (Trip fee + travel allotment) x ((100 - percent aid) x .01), in other words ($225 + $400) x ((100-75) x .01) = $156.25 is the approximate cost to Suzie Q for the fee and travel to attend Odyssey Session I Basecamp.
Note: The travel allotment is based on a survey of airline costs we conduct in March. The closer to March that Suzie Q purchases her travel tickets, the more accurate this estimate will be. We do not base the travel allotment on the cost of the ticket that Suzie Q purchases—it is based solely on the travel survey conducted in March.
Roxanne, from Greenland, N.C.:
We reimburse travel by car within 250 miles from Davidson at $0.30/mile. Otherwise, travel is based on the airline cost survey conducted in March.
Her cost is figured by the following formula: (Trip fee + ((miles one way to Davidson x 2) x $0.30) x ((100-percent aid) x .01), in other words ($225 + ((150 x 2) x $0.30) x ((100-54) x .01) = $196.50 is the approximate cost to Roxanne for the fee and mileage reimbursement to attend Odyssey Session II Backcountry: Paddling.
Bubba, from Denmark, Colo.:
His cost is figured by the following formula: Trip fee x ((100-percent aid) x .01) $225 x ((100-100) x .01) = $0 Bubba will actually pay the minimum fee of $25 for Odyssey. Since he is coming to Session III, there is no travel allotment and Bubba will be responsible for his own transportation to the Odyssey. The travel allotment is designed to help supplement the extra trip to Davidson that Session I and II require.
When we receive your registration, we will email you your adjusted costs and travel allowance information if you are eligible for a financial aid package.
We will bill your Davidson College account on the first day of your session. By registering, you commit to paying that bill when it is posted.
If you cancel 23 days or more prior to the start of your session you will not be billed for the Odyssey session. We will bill 50 percent of your calculated session fee for cancellations from 22 to 9 days prior to the start of your session. We will bill 100 percent of your calculated session fee for cancellations made less than 9 days prior to the start of your session.
